JAKARTA (Indonesia), MHI – President Joko Widodo strongly criticized the violence that occurred in the City of Paris and Nice and resulted in casualties. This statement was conveyed by President Joko Widodo after meeting with Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, representatives of inter-religious believers in Indonesia, as well as relevant ministers to discuss world developments related to inter-religious brotherhood.
“First, Indonesia strongly condemns the violence that occurred in Paris and Nice which has claimed lives. Second, Indonesia also strongly condemns the statement of the French President which insults Islam which has hurt the feelings of Muslims around the world which could break the unity between religious believers in world at a time when the world needs unity to face the Covid-19 pandemic, “said the President at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
In his statement, the Head of State emphasized that freedom of expression which can injure the honor, sanctity and sacredness of religious values and symbols cannot be justified at all and must be stopped immediately.
